Some people are making these very personal products from manufactured chemical-pulps like rayon, viscose, and lyocell (Tencel®), or petroleum-derived materials like polyester.
Wait, do you mean the stuff they made those terrible suits out of in the 1970s?"
Yes, that same polyester, and rayon like your football socks.
While greige, or gray cotton is mechanically cleaned, it is lower grade impure cotton, and carries high levels of contaminants like mold, fungi, and potentially hazardous bacteria. All the while being marketed as safe, clean, pure, and hygienic. The contaminants can’t be eliminated unless the nonwovens company or converter adds extra processing to purify the dirty greige cotton, or has the greige cotton gamma irradiated prior to delivery. Plus, greige cotton is non-absorbent (hydrophobic) and requires adding a compound to the fiber to become absorbent. Microbes and non-absorbent? And they’re trying to sell that as good for you? Come on.
Barnhardt’s new exciting Purified Cotton™ symbol on the package means the cotton within has undergone the world’s most highly intensive Proprietary Ultra-Purification Process—a full day process in which cotton is opened to the point that each single, individual cotton fiber can be washed, cleaned, washed more, stripped of all matter that could trap biocides or fertilizers, purified, flood rinsed with water that meets and/or exceeds safe drinking standards, dried, finished, and lab tested for purity.
Purified Cotton™ is 100% pharmaceutical grade purity—nothing more, no surprises, no chemicals, toxins, or contaminants. It’s the highest grade of cotton available to the world, best for contact with sensitive human skin, and the only grade that can truthfully be called pure.
Beware of misleading language like 100% cotton, natural cotton, virgin cotton, or even pure cotton if not accompanied by the Purified Cotton™ symbol.
Purified Cotton™ is super-absorbent, softer and fluffier, hypoallergenic, the true natural fiber goodness intended for use on sensitive human parts. You’ll be seeing (and hearing) plenty of Barnhardt’s international Shouting Out the Pure Truth campaign very soon. We’ll keep on shouting-over the whitewashing and greenwashing of chemical-pulps that try to get you to believe they’re somehow natural, and the dirty greige cotton that says it’s clean and safe—so the world knows they can have what they want—Purified Cotton™— in their personal care products, and all they have to do is look at the label. If they don’t see Purified Cotton™, perhaps they’ll keep looking.
If you’re making and selling facial wipes, pads and pantyliners, baby diapers and wipes, wound care and adult incontinence products, we hope you will play a role in this worthy effort to tell the Pure Truth by including Purified Cotton™ in your products and displaying the new Purified Cotton™ symbol.
